Procrastination...what I get out of it.

Life is complicated. Worrying about things that must be attended to, the
ABC's of obligation, duty and responsibility has always given me a tension headache. So from an early age, I decided, in passive-aggressive fashion, to simply put off what brought up anxiety, fear or stress. This doesn't mean I never get stressed, it simply means I put off dealing with difficult issues until I the stress of deferral equals the stress of addressing the obligation.

Strange how we attract situations that seem to reinforce our bad habits.
The tongue-in-cheek motto at Megabucks Industries is " we may be slow, but our work is poor". Many employees try to live up to this adage, each and every day.

Of course I humorously exaggerate now, it's a tactic I use to lower
everyone's expectations. In truth, I am better than the slogan... mostly.
Such a comparison favors me and hey, I'll take all the help I can get.

I just read some of career counselor Marty Nemko's pages on procrastination. One of the more enlightening passages was that some people, try as they might, never get cured of procrastination because the benefits of a cure are not really worth the effort. That is often how I feel.

But I'm still young enough to want to improve myself, so today, using his
techniques, I've managed to feel like less of a procrastinator than I have
in quite some time. Maybe he's got something there...

Relief

It's deliciously cool today and the days grow shorter.
I'm relaxing into the fall.
